Reznak mo Reznak is the perfumed, obsequious seneschal of Meereen, a constant presence at the court of Daenerys Targaryen and later King Hizdahr zo Loraq. A small, damp man who reeks of perfume and speaks a bastard form of High Valyrian thick with a Ghiscari growl, he is a master of flattery and courtly maneuvering. His role is that of a quintessential courtier, ever eager to please the reigning power, but his counsel is often self-serving and his loyalty deeply suspect, making him a figure of profound mistrust for Daenerys and her most loyal advisors.
Identity and Role at Court
Reznak is introduced as Daenerys's seneschal, a position that makes him the chief administrator of her court in Meereen. He is physically unremarkable—bald, with a perpetually worried expression—and his defining characteristic is his cloying, obsequious manner. He addresses Daenerys with a stream of extravagant titles like "Magnificence" and "Your Radiance," and his speech is filled with flattery. He is also a creature of protocol, constantly consulting lists of petitioners and insisting on the proper forms of address, a trait that both amuses and irritates the queen. His primary function is to manage the day-to-day business of the court, presenting cases, advising on custom, and attempting to steer the queen toward what he perceives as the path of least resistance.
Counsel and Suspicions
Reznak's counsel is consistently pragmatic, cautious, and often at odds with Daenerys's more idealistic impulses. He urges her to wear the Ghiscari tokar to be accepted, to consider the tax revenue from reopening the fighting pits, and to pay compensation for the sheep her dragons kill. He is terrified of conflict and repeatedly advocates for appeasement, most notably when he urges Daenerys to marry Hizdahr zo Loraq to secure peace. This constant advocacy for the status quo and his eagerness to accommodate the former slave masters makes him deeply suspect in the eyes of Daenerys and her inner circle. The masked woman Quaithe warns Daenerys to "beware the perfumed seneschal," a prophecy that casts a long shadow over Reznak's every action. Role Under King Hizdahr
After Daenerys's disappearance and Hizdahr zo Loraq's ascension to the throne, Reznak seamlessly transfers his sycophantic loyalty to the new king. He is present at court, continuing his role as seneschal and offering the same kind of cautious, self-preserving advice. When the Yunkish envoys present the severed head of Admiral Groleo, it is Reznak who gingerly picks it up by the hair, a moment that crystallizes his role as a functionary who handles the unpleasant realities of power without ever truly confronting them. He remains a figure of the court, a bureaucrat who survives by bending with the prevailing wind, his true allegiances as opaque as ever. His presence in the new regime underscores the continuity of Meereen's old, corrupt structures, even as the city lurches from a fragile peace toward open war.
